We increase awareness of thrombosis to save lives & improve treatment

Partners of Charity Oars & Supporters

Charity Oars would like to thank the following businesses for their kind and very valuable assistance in making our campaign possible. As a new, and small charity, Charity Oars are self-financed, we don’t receive any grants, or corporate assistance, and every penny we raise goes directly to Thrombosis UK (formerly Lifeblood the Thrombosis Charity).

Partners of Charity Oars

Charity Oars are proud to be working in partnership with Thrombosis UK (formerly Lifeblood the thrombosis charity) the UK’s leading Thrombosis Charity and WTD.

In 2015 Lifeblood a VTE Charity (founded in 2002) re branded as Thrombosis UK, with a key focus on the development and enhancement of the awareness, research and care of VTE (DVT and Pulmonary Embolism) for those working within the medical profession as well as those affected by the condition.  Over time Thrombosis UK has grown to a medium sized charity, with a key focus in the following areas.

Thrombosis UK has been behind the development and implementation of many ground breaking guidelines that are being implemented through NICE. This has fundamentally helped to increase the awareness and education of thrombosis.

Championing campaigns such as the “stop the clot” a dedicated campaign that involved lobbying to improve the prevention of hospital acquired clots, and the “spot the clot” campaign which focussed on raising awareness amongst health professionals, health professional students and the public of the symptoms and signs of thrombosis.

Thrombosis UK are also developing individual support for sufferers of thrombosis. With the development and infrastructure to deliver individual help for survivors of DVT and PE. Having a blood clot can be traumatic and some individuals are left with permanent health problems.

World Thrombosis Day (WTD) is one day – October 13 – around the world dedicated to focusing attention on the often overlooked and misunderstood disease burden caused by thrombosis globally...but it is not a one-time observance.

WTD is an annual day that also will energize a collective drive to increase awareness and action through educational activities for the public and health professionals throughout the year, year to year.

At the heart of WTD are dozens of thrombosis and hemostasis societies, patient advocacy groups, medical/scientific organizations and other interested parties from around the world who seek to:

  • Increase the awareness about the prevalence and risks from thrombosis
  • Reduce the number of undiagnosed cases
  • Increase the implementation of evidence-based prevention
  • Encourage health care systems to implement strategies to ensure “best practices” for prevention, diagnosis and treatment
  • Advocate for adequate resources for these efforts and increased support for research to reduce the disease burden from thrombosis
  • Ultimately save lives

While this is an ambitious agenda, WTD spotlights the urgency of raising awareness today and, ultimately, turning awareness into action on many fronts.

Supporters of Charity Oars

In today’s very competitive market, the support of the following organisations has not only made all of this possible, but by their commitment and investment in Charity Oars, they have shown their true colours and we are proud to be associated with each one.

They say meeting your sporting heroes isn’t a good idea. I disagree. Charity Oars had the pleasure of meeting Alan Lamb (England and Northamptonshire cricket legend). Just like on the hallowed turf at Lords (or the County Ground) Alan was still the consummate professional and all round great chap.

Allan now runs Allan Lamb Associates a leading corporate hospitality , events, sports marketing and sponsorship and incentive travel company.

Allan Lamb Associates is committed to supporting their clients throughout every event to ensure your ideas are turned into reality, delivering not only an innovative event, but one that is memorable, on time and to budget.

What can we say about Zaynab lamb and Steve Coogan and the team at Baby Cow Productions….? Their support in helping Charity Oars take a huge step forward in the campaign was magnificent.

A leading production company with titles like Moone Boy, the Trip to Italy, Uncle, Up the Women and Over the Bill. Baby Cow was established by award winning comedy creators Steve Coogan and Henry Normal, Baby Cow Productions has gained an enviable reputation for nurturing new British comedy talent, whilst teaming up with the best of the UK’s established writers, directors and producers.

When the Charity Oars were invited to the British Rowing Championships, it soon became clear that transporting two handmade, 8 foot long wooden oars needed careful handling, added to the fact that the Charity Oars were fast becoming covered with some famous signatures, we needed help.

Up stepped the chaps at Swift Racing. Their very generous support and donation of a very snappy and smart looking oars bag was the ideal product and we can’t thank them enough for their kindness.

Since 2005, when Swift Racing Boats came to the market, they have proudly worked with many rowing teams and clubs from around the world. With a strong focus on quality and reliability, Swift Racing has shown that quality doesn’t have to come at a high price.

When we started the Charity Oars campaign we knew that an on-line presence was a must. As you know the campaign is financed privately allowing for the maximum fundraising results to be donated to Thrombosis UK. In the early months of 2015 we were very sadly let down by an organisation, this cost us personally as well as causing the promotion of our campaign to stop reaching the people we needed to.

We had nowhere to go. Then we were introduced to Alex and the team at Geek Designs …!

With their policy and belief in service that's quite unique in the world of web design, we were in safe hands. Ensuring that the Charity Oars were absolutely happy with what was being offered was paramount and we were fully supported and given with jargon free advice so Charity Oars made the most informed decision.

Quite simply, Alex and the team have been superb….!
